The adventures of Mr. G.S.' class!

I would like to share the joy and education i gained from my Mass Communications class!

This year in Mass communications has been one to remember!  We have learned many things this year that i know we will take with us later in life.  From creating websites on student life to working on a mock news broad cast. Our Mass Communications class has gone over a large amount of what is needed in journalism.

At the beginning of the semester we started out by creating our own websites with a partner on tripod.  This taught us a great deal of what it takes to go into the endless world of technology.  When that was finished we took a break from the website business and moved on to writing and listening.  Daniel Neman, the movie critic for the times dispatch, Mac Watson, a radio host, and Laurence Goodrich, Mr. G.S.' brother-in-law came in and gave the class a rundown of there lives.  We had to take notes and write an article on each person.  This taught us how to listen and take good notes as well as write coverage storys.

When that was finished and done we moved on to learning about the intricate world of radio.  Our class took a trip to Clearwater Radio station and toured the building.  We learned what its like to work with radio and how focused one must be to go on the air.

After our trip to the station we journied back into the website design world.  With a new mission, The Hanover High School Art Gallery, our class was to build a real website displaying, and representing our schools art.  Even though we had obstacles such as the school board threatening to shut the website down, we were eager to finish.  Equipped with knowledge and drive we still managed to not only finish but finish the website well.  The pressure of deadlines aside!

With the art website behind us our class was ready to move on to the world of television.  But before we could do that we had to learn many different vocabulary words that would help us throughout the way.  After many commercial viewings and grueling vocabulary quizzes Mr. G.S. finally let us go to the newsroom.  Here we split up into two groups.  Group one worked in the newsroom while group two worked on a documentary.  I was in group one and working in the newsroom was an amazing experience.  Its one of those things one must work there to really learn about live broadcasts and how much goes into it.  While working in the newsroom i learned that everyone must be on top of there game and one little slip up could ruin the entire show.  With the pressure of not messing up aside I have to say working there was so much fun.

Wow! I can't believe our class did all of those things.  This class taught me so much and opened my eyes to the world of journalism. As one can see our class went above and beyond what is needed to know.  My only suggestion would be to make this class not just a semester class but a year round one!

Thanks for coming!
